What happens when you pack The Clash, Kylie, Kraftwerk, Ladytron, Madonna and Daft Punk into the backroom of your favourite Discotheque?

Well, you might get the most brilliant soundtrack for intelligent hedonists who need to party without worrying about next days evil hangover. This is where the german underground pop duo Planetakis comes in...

Planetakis´s euphoric songs range from sugarcandy pop to futuristic electropunk, ironic comments on urban lifestyle written in a mixed english-german language. Their punkadelic-energetic on-stage performance is notorious for giving the audience an uber-adrenalin kick full of positive aggression.

The duo decided to make their anthemic electro pop song "Pogo In The Shoes Of Kylie Minogue" available for free. The track is spreading all over the net with tenth of thousands of downloads and appeared on many DJ playlists from Amsterdam to LA. Their second album "Out Of The Club Into The Night" has been released in august 2007 by Peng Musik/Cargo Records in Germany and in the USA in january 2008.

They are located in Cologne, a city with an international reputation for minimal techno (Kompakt), kraut-rock (Can) and its orgiastic carnival. Jenny and Robert also just started a brand new heavy-electro project called Mixroboter.

The band members:
Jenny Fey sings with a bright voice and plays her Microkorg synth like a guitar on stage. Her musical background is hardcore punk, she´s singing with her punk band "Inner Conflict" for 10 years now. She´s a professional actress as well, acting in plays from Shakespeare and Schiller. Her brother directs and produces videos for Planetakis, her mother is a photographer and made a lot of photos for the band´s artwork.

Robert Drakogiannakis has a mixed heritage, german and greek. He loves to wear suits and to bang his guitar. Before Planetakis he acted this obsessions out by being the man in front of the successful german pop-punk band Angelika Express, a group that caused quite a stir with hard rocking, ironic deutsch-pop. He complements his skills as a singer, guitarist and songwriter with his passion for making digital sounds rrrrock.

Das Kölner Elektropop Duo hat seit dem Debütalbum Anfang 2006 Einiges erlebt.

Mit Gitarrenverzerrer und Laptop bewaffnet bestreiten sie erste Gigs in London, konzertieren mit Art Brut und We Are Scientists und spielen einen chaotischen Supportslot für die Babyshambles. Plötzlich tauchen aus den Tiefen des Internet euphorische Aussagen auf wie "Planetakis - the best ever german band". Bei Myspace und Youtube machen sie die Runde. "Pogo In The Shoes Of Kylie Minogue" wird viele zehntausand mal heruntergeladen und erscheint auf DJ-Playlisten von Amsterdam bis LA. Die Indie-Ikone Bob Mould (Husker Dü, Sugar) featured den Song auf seinen Gay-Elektro Raves in Washington. Samplerbeiträge in England und Amerika folgen.

In diesem Klima entsteht in einjähriger Arbeit das zweite Album. Mit illustren Gästen: Hans Nieswandt, der respektable House-DJ, Musiker und Buchautor, arbeitet mit der Band zusammen, der Track "Pogo Mit Hans" entsteht. Rockproduzent Wolfgang Stach (Guano Apes, Karpatenhund) lädt Planetakis in sein Studio ein, der höchst poppige Song "Letters To Norway" ist das Ergebnis.

Fette Bässe, schnurgerade Bassdrums und clubbige Rhythmen bilden das Fundament für die geschmeidigen und einprägsamen Popmelodien von "Out Of The Club Into The Night". Die Englischen und deutschen Texte beschreiben eine Welt zwischen Partyeuphorie und Alltagsfluchten: "Raus Aus Der Wirklichkeit - Rein In Die Diskothek". Pointiert plakativ singen Planetakis von "Money Sex And Alcohol", James Bond wird als "Son Of A Bitch" beschimpft und Melancholie setzt ein bei der Erkenntnis: "No Faith No More On The Partyfloor". Der wohl größte Hit der Platte ist der stampfende Vocoder-Rocker "Messages", ein Song über Liebe und Hass per SMS und Instant Messaging.

Die aktuelle CD erschien im August 2007 auf dem bandeigenen Label Peng Musik in Cooperation mit Cargo Records, im Januar 2008 folgte dann sogar ein flächendeckender Release in den USA.

Dieses zweite Album von Planetakis ist eine Einladung zum Tanz zwischen schillernder Verklärung des Nachtlebens und der schönen Dunkelheit danach. Futuristischer Glamour trifft auf verschwitzte Punkenergie, der Dancefloor vibriert und die Indie Kids werfen die Arme in die Höhe. Zwischen Kylie, Daft Punk und Ladytron finden Jenny und Robert das Glück in der Disko, mit der Gitarre in der Hand. Und auch wer Freude an gehypten Nu Rave Acts wie Shitdisco, Digitalism, CSS oder Klaxons findet sollte ebenfalls gut aufgehoben sein.

Die Bandmitglieder:
Jenny Fey singt mit heller Stimme und spielt einen MicroKorg Synthesizer den Sie auf der Bühne wie eine Gitarre handhabt. Ihre musikalischen Wurzeln liegen im Hardcorepunk, sie ist seit fast 10 Jahren als Sängerin der Band "Inner Conflict" an vorderster Front dabei. Als ausgebildete Schauspielerin spielt sie Theater von Shakespeare bis Schiller. Ihr Bruder dreht die Videos, ihre Mutter ist Photographin und lichtete die Band fürs Cover ab.

Robert Drakogiannakis ist halb griechischer Herkunft, trägt gerne Anzug und spielt wild Gitarre. Das lernte er als Frontmann der Band Angelika Express die mit punkigem, ironisch gebrochenem Deutschpop für ziemliches Aufsehen sorgte. Seine Fertigkeiten als Sänger, Gitarrist und Songwriter ergänzt er durch die Begeisterung dafür digitale Klänge zum Rocken zu bringen.

US album release

On January 22 2008 our new cd has been officially released in the US, Canada and Mexico. Our in-house label Peng Musik has partnered with Sheridan Square Music, who also work with records by Moby, The White Stripes, Raconteurs and numerous others. Besides future Planetakis stuff the Mixroboter debut album will also be released overseas. We´re very, very excited about all this and we´re deeply curious about the reactions on our music on the other side of the atlantic.

Neulich hatten wir viel Spaß bei einem kurzen Konzerttrip um den Bodensee. Woran wir uns wohl ewig erinnern werden: Ein Konzertbesucher der voller Enthusiasmus ein original Planetakis Girlie-T-Shirt zur Hose umfunktionierte. Das St. Gallener Electronic Duo Die Kalte Hand und Nat Waters. Absolute grossartige und eigenständige Musik, eine echte Entdeckung! Und der Appenzeller Schnaps, der den gefährlichsten Rausch und allerhärtesten Kater ever verursacht. Wir kommen zurück!

Lately we had great joy playing some gigs around the beautiful Lake Constance. Some things that we will remember for ever: The tall and handsome guy who was enthusiastically wearing a very tight Planetakis girl-shirt instead of his trousers (see picture). The swiss electronic duo Die Kalte Hand + Nat Waters from St. Gallen, fantastic, unique music, a real discovery. Finally we were deeply impressed by the Appenzeller Schnapps which induces the most dangerous flush followed by stunning hangovers. We´ll come back!

Mixroboter

In case you missed it: Planetakis is not the only thing we´re doing musically. Mixroboter is our new heavy electro dancefloor project, with help from our good friend and techno guru Pierre Chevalier. Go to the Mixroboter Myspace and listen to tracks from the debut album "The Phone".

"The Phone" is out now on Peng Musik as a Mp3 download album. Get it here for € 6. A physical release is planned for March or April 2008.

AND HEY: You can download the first album track for free: "Lock Me Away".

A typical Mixroboter gig is a noisy combination of liveperformance and dj-set. We mix our own creations with our favourite dancefloor bangers, using a microkorg, a microphone, 2 laptops running ableton and some rather weird stuff.

If you´re in Vienna, come around to the Badeschiff. We´re playing there at the hilarious WRCKD Party on December the 25th.
